More news out of Alberta, this time more drama at the U of A: They’re axing EDI in their hiring processes. This comes only 6 years after implementing the policy, and one year after renaming it to ACB (Access, Community and Belonging). They’re the first Canadian University to do this.

“I do believe that there's been pressure by the government on post-secondaries to abandon EDI policies,” Gotell said. “Because it's not really clear to me why we would be abandoning a framework that we just put in place six years ago.”

PSA for any other online sellers out there: My spidey senses went off about an order this week and I want to share my experience so you don’t potentially get scammed. I received a larger order than usual on Etsy (above the seller protection amount), checked the address, and it was Canadian — BUT —- it had an unusual second line to the address that I’d not seen before, so I went investigating. Turns out it was a well known ‘freight forwarding’ scam address. The buyer doesn’t live in Canada, and they use this location as a front to be able to ‘buy’ Canadian products. This location is known to be used by the “my item never arrived” type of scammers who will tell Etsy that the item never arrived and get refunds plus keep the items. They’re not purchasing in good faith, and not actually even located in Canada. They’re overseas buyers using the location as a front to scam sellers. I canceled the order. Please BEWARE! If something looks off, take the time to look into it. /end PSA

Smol Etsy rant… Etsy has a program where they force higher performing shops into an advertising scheme that takes 15% off the top of every sale. They call them ‘Offsite Ads’. If anyone clicks into my shop and makes a purchase within 30 days - they’ll snag 15% off the entire total (+regular Etsy fees, taxes, shipping, all of it). I just had a ‘sale’ come through for $75. Wanna know much I actually get paid after fees, taxes, and shipping? $32. That’s it. Please, PLEASE shop directly through Etsy if you are shopping there and supporting small businesses this holiday season! Try to avoid click through Ad purchases! Thank you, A stressed Etsy seller
